hung leng training curriculum

The Hung Leng Kuen training curriculum consists of forms, sets, syllabus (basic technique and drills), and application (all types of partner training and sparring).

Our forms are primarily Shaolin animal forms and weapons forms, taught in order of progressive difficulty and to teach specific skills, or to further develop certain capacities. Weapons forms are useful in training the use of general types of object in self-defence, and to further refine empty hand technique and develop power.

Sets are repeated standing excercises designed to progressively develop specific capacities. In the curriculum there are sets to develop 1) stances 2) kicking 3) striking, parries, blocking and combination 4) chi kung (breathing, hard and soft power and 'fighting spirit').

Basic techniques and standing postures, the most important of which being Ma Bo (horse stance), Gum Bo (bow and arrow), Hut Pao Ma (black leopard stance), and Lung Ma (dragon stance). Standing teaches strength and power. Basic striking and kicking technique is covered, developing into combination practice as fighting drills.

Application covers basic self-defence, dealing with specific situations, defence from grabs, strangles, chokes, punches, kicks, standing, sitting and lying positions, rolls and break falls. This is further developed into practice and study of form applications, and by partner drills, sensitivity training, progressive and free sparring.
